SDG&E Electricity Shutoffs.....

During weather that could damage power circuits and lines, SDG&E will monitor their circuits and shut off power to avoid lines and equipment starting fires.  Unfortunately when they do this, us and the Fire Department do not receive information on when power could be restored.

The Outage Map is probably the most helpful.  On the shutoff page, they have information on the process and FAQ's that may help answer your questions.

Once power is cut off- due to a planned or unplanned outage, they cannot turn the power back on until they inspect the line(s) that are in the circuit.  They don't want to energize a downed line they did not know about.  So that process takes time.... they patrol via foot, vehicle and helicopter depending on the type and length of circuit involved.  You can imagine the work if the line is a few miles long......

We can't give accurate updates on this process, because we are not involved and the process is dynamic.  Usually we will have residents call SDG&E directly or check the above web pages.  SDG&E number: 1-800-411-7343

Our advice is to have a plan if the power goes off.   Be prepared to use a generator, alternate cold storage, flashlights, etc.  If you use a generator, connect it to the device you wish to power.   Check with SDG&E about this prior to having to use it.

Your gate has to have battery backup-  Fire Code requires this.   The battery will open the gate in a loss of power.  All gates have an alternate mechanical way to open the gate as well-  look at your instruction manual or ask your gate installer.  Usually it is a lever or bolt that can be moved to open the gate.

This will be the 38th Annual Parade!

The parade starts at the RSF School parking lot at La Granada and Avenida De Acacias and goes through the village to end where it starts.   Form up for the parade starts at 12- 12:30.   The parade starts at 1:00 pm.  There is a community BBQ immediately following in the south village park.

To make the form  up easier, please keep this in mind:

1. Follow the marshals instructions for form up. Cars go against the curb- don't take up the parking spaces! We need all the room we can get.  Make two or three lines if needed. Please do not block El Fuego.
2. Kids have to wear Helmets if they are on bicycles (good idea for skateboards too).  Parents have to monitor all of their kids throughout the parade route.
3.  Have your children to stay in formation.  It is dangerous if they run ahead or through the parade. 
4.Please, no candy in cars, floats. Throwing candy causes small kids to run into the moving vehicles.
5.  Antique cars overheat.  If the car has radiator or cooling issues, it may be best not to drive it. 
6. Only well trained parade horses should participate.  The route is noisy with loud speakers, sirens and lots of people.  If the horses cannot be controlled safely we will ask them to move out of the parade.  Be mindful of the your dogs feet- The Asphalt is hot (over 100 degrees).

Charity Bike Ride Saturday May 18

The San Diego Century bike ride comes through the Ranch Saturday May 18- starting at about 6 am from Mira Costa College in Cardiff by the Sea.  There will be riders on several routes all day.  There will not be any road closures.  Just be aware of a higher than normal amount of bicycle riders on the road.  If you experience any problems, contact the CHP.

Wildfire Preparation

In a major wildfire, fire protection and law enforcement agencies may not have enough equipment and manpower to go door to door advising you to evacuate; you should be ready to make this decision yourself or with the help of the reverse 9-1-1 system. The information provided below is to help prepare you for when a wildfire strikes.

Prepare For Evacuation

Know how you will be notified

If there is an emergency situation and you need to evacuated, there are several ways you will be notified:

• First and most important is the county's notification system. If your address is being evacuated, you will receive a phone message with evacuation information and instructions. Landlines are automatically part of the date base, but cell phones and email addresses need to be registered. This can be done online in only a few minutes at AlertSanDiego. You can register as many cell phones and emails as you would like.
• Law enforcement will go through neighborhoods advising residents of the evacuation notice.
• San Diego County also has an app that can be downloaded to your phone. SD Emergency provides information on disaster preparedness and current incidents in San Diego County, including push notifications of evacuation orders. The app allows you to customize what information you see and which notifications are pushed.
• During emergency situations, The Fire Department and Sheriff, Cal Fire  do their best to provide up-to-date, accurate information on social media.

Pre-plan your Evacuation Route

• Narrow roads can cause traffic congestion leading to panic for those evacuating.
• From your house, identify at least TWO roads leading out of the area.
• Be sure these roads provide for two-way traffic (i.e., cars evacuating and emergency vehicles trying to access the area).

Power is Out!

Early this morning SDG&E turned off power to several circuits in Ranch Santa Fe due to the high winds.   To see what areas are impacted, go to their website (or Google SDGE Outage map).  https://www.sdge.com/residential/customer-service/outage-center/outage-map

Unfortunately we don't get any better info than what they supply on the website.
Once they determine the weather will not cause lines to be blown down, they will do a patrol of the area for the circuit that is off and make sure it's safe to turn the power back on.  Their number is 1-800-411-7343

Halloween Parade

On Friday October 26, the RSF School will be holding it's annual Halloween Parade through the village area.  From  12:00 to 12:30 pm  several roads in the village will be closed while the children show off their costumes. 

The route goes from the school to Paseo Delicias to La Granada, to El Tordo and back to the school.
 
Avenida De Acacias, Paseo Delicias,  La Granada from Paseo Delicias to El Tordo and El Tordo from La Granada to Avenida De Acacias will be temporarily closed.  Follow the detour signs to get around the closures.

Upcoming Road Closures

There are some upcoming road closures in the Village that you should be aware of.
The short "one Way" section of La Gracia is going to be closed from Sept. 16 through Sept. 20 for the construction of the Fashion Show Tent.   On September 20, the Country Friends Fashion Show will be held in the park and at the RSF Inn.
Avenida De Acacias from El Tordo to La Flecha will be closed all day on Sept. 20.  Linea Del Cielo will be closed between El Tordo and Avenida De Acacias.  To get around the closure, use La Granada.  Parking throughout the village will be tight.  Please observe the time limits and the red zones.

Rancho Santa Fe Patrol News

We have a new feature for submitting vacation check requests-  You can do this on-line!

Simply go to our new website- www.rsfpatrol.org and click on the Vacation Check on the left hand side of the screen.  This will bring you to a button you click to start he process.  If you are not already logged in, as a RSF Association Member, you will have to this.  Your login is the same as for the Association website.  If you do not have a login and password, please contact the Association Office- 858-756-1174 they can set you up with the needed information.

Please fill out the form- some fields are mandatory.  Once you submit the information, you should get a reply within 24 hours acknowledging that we received the request.  If we have any questions, we may call or email you for clarification.

Burglary Suspects - Press Release from the San Diego County Sheriff

Please see this release from the Sheriff"s Department.  These suspects are very similar to ones suspected in a Rancho Santa Fe case that occurred on 5/3/18.

San Diego County Crime Stoppers and investigators from the Vista Sheriff's Station are asking for the public's help to identify and locate three unknown suspects wanted in connection with a burglary that occurred in the unincorporated area of Vista. On April 25, 2018, at about 4:40 p.m., three Black males burglarized a house in the 1000 block of Sugarbush Drive in unincorporated Vista.

The suspects arrived at the residence about 20 minutes after the homeowner left. The suspects pulled into the driveway and Suspect #1 exited the vehicle and knocked on the front door. When there was no answer, he and Suspect #2 went to the backyard through a side gate. They broke a rear sliding glass door and entered the residence. The suspects took a Barska safe, rifles and handguns in the burglary.

 The vehicle used in this burglary is a dark colored, possibly blue, 2018 Dodge Durango SXT with Bob Baker paper plates. These suspects may also be wanted in similar burglaries across the County of San Diego. They are targeting geographically isolated, high-end homes and are likely driving newer model vehicles (with paper dealership plates) that have large storage capacities.

Description of Suspects:

Suspect #1 is described as a Black male, between 18 and 35-years-old, standing 5’10” tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He had a mustache, was bald or had a short buzzed haircut. He was last seen wearing a white long sleeve shirt, tie, gray Nike sweatshirt blue jeans and black and white shoes. He also had black gloves and a blue and white baseball cap.

Suspect #2 is a Black male, between 18 and 35-years-old, standing 5’10” tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He had black dreadlocks and was wearing a black hoodie, torn blue jeans with a checkered belt, a black hooded sweatshirt and black gloves. He was wearing black shoes.


Suspect #3 is a Black male, between 18 and 35-years-old and weighing 220 pounds. He was bald or had a short buzzed haircut, dark skin, blue long sleeve shirt, tie and blue jeans. He was wearing black and white Adidas shoes. Description of Vehicle: Blue or dark colored 2018 Dodge Durango SXT with Bob Baker plates

Home Security Inspection Survey

Home Security Inspection Survey

Over the past few weeks we have seen an increase in requests from residents asking for advice on "beefing up" their home security.  This is a great idea!   We use a FREE resource available from the Sheriff's Department.

The San Diego County Sheriff has Crime Prevention Specialists that work out of the North Coastal Station (our area).  They will come out to the home or business and conduct a free home inspection security survey.  The survey is done by the specialist who is a trained Sheriff's Dept. employee.  They offer many tips and suggestions on how to "harden the target" and improve the security of the home or business.  They are not financially driven by a product or company so you know their opinions and advice are honest real world suggestions.  Many of the improvements you can do are very easy to do and may not cost you anything!  They are very familiar with current crime trends county wide.

Home Invasion Robbery Nearby

This is information from the San Diego County Sheriff-  This crime occurred just outside the Covenant.  

SYNOPSIS: At 10:59 p.m. on January 12, 2018, deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to a call of a home invasion robbery in the 3900 block of Stonebridge Lane in the community of Rancho Santa Fe. Four black male adult suspects, wearing masks and each armed with guns, entered the victims' house. The suspects bound the victims, and then ransacked the residence. The suspects left the area in an unknown direction. The loss in unknown at this time. The investigation is on-going and is being handled by the North Coastal Sheriff's Station Detective Unit.

Burglaries are Increasing

Burglaries in the area (and surrounding areas) are on the rise....   A reminder- please lock your doors and windows, arm your alarm systems.  If you are leaving the home, make the house look like someone is around- leave lights on timers,  pick up newspapers.  If the house looks empty then you are increasing your chances of being a target.   Lock up your valuable items.

If you see suspicious people or vehicles, call us or the Sheriff right away.  So often we get information  a day or two late -  call right away when you see the activity or persons.

The fire danger remains extreme through the weekend as the National Weather Service is continuing its red flag warning for San Diego County through 8 p.m. Sunday. Single-digit humidity levels in combination with more widespread winds building up strength over the weekend mean residents must stay alert for fires and avoid any activities that could spark a fire. 

The Lilac Fire and wildfires to the north of San Diego County serve as a reminder to everyone to have a family emergency plan which includes an emergency kit. As part of that, families should practice evacuating and discuss where they will meet if they are separated when an emergency breaks out. 

Pre-planning or pre-packing of irreplaceable documents and mementos could give people peace of mind. News reports on wildfire survivors frequently mention that they had only minutes to flee and left with just the clothes on their back.

Stay informed of local conditions and report any potential fires immediately by calling 9-1-1. Register your cell phones for AlertSanDiego emergency notifications and monitor local news reports.

Also- be sure to close and lock windows and doors when not at home.  False alarm calls due to wind-blown doors and windows reduce service levels for legitimate emergencies.  Double check before you leave the house.

Although we do not have a "boiler plate" evacuation route for everyone to use- because incidents are dynamic and ever changing, you should always have a plan on what to do and what to take; at least two ways out of your neighborhood and know multiple ways to and from work.

You should share this plan with friends and family in advance so they know what to expect.

If you have animals that require evacuation, you should have an up to date plan on how to deal with them.  You should contact your local animal shelter, vet or a person with trailers that knows how to handle horses.  If you feel threatened during a disaster event and have not been advised to evacuate, you should evacuate sooner than later.  It takes time to load up dogs, cats, horses and other animals.

We encourage everyone to register your phone numbers/email addresses with Alert San Diego.  This is really important to receive up to date information.
